Symptom
Bertazzoni dishwasher will not start
The panel lights, you press start, and nothing happens — or nothing lights at all. The door latch is the answer far more often than the electronics, and it is one of the least expensive parts in the machine.

Five ordinary causes
What this usually turns out to be
Cheapest and commonest first, which is also the order we check them in. They sit hundreds of dollars apart, and only the unit settles which one is yours.
-
The door latch and its switch
The commonest answer by a distance, and inexpensive. The latch is a safety switch as well as a catch, and a worn one stops the machine as effectively as a failed board.
Dishwasher leak & door repair from $165 -
A control lock or delayed start
Set by accident, cleared in seconds. Worth ruling out before anything else because it costs nothing.
-
No water arriving
A supply valve turned off under the sink, or an inlet valve that has failed. The machine begins and abandons the cycle, which reads as not starting.

A completely dead panel
Points at the supply, the door switch or the main control — in that order, and the first two are cheap.

The control board
Last. A machine that will not start with a proven latch, a live supply and no lock set is the case that ends here.

None of it needs tools, and all of it makes the visit shorter.

01
Close the door properly
Firmly. Then try again. It sounds too simple and it is the answer often.
-
02
A minute at the breaker
A real power cycle, not the button on the panel.
-
03
Is the water on
The supply valve under the sink gets turned off during other work and not turned back.

Any code at all
On this machine there may well be one, and it names the condition.

Narrow it down before anybody arrives
A description of the behaviour leaves a few possible causes. A code names the subsystem before anybody opens anything, which is why it is worth photographing before it clears.

About Bertazzoni dishwasher will not start
The fastest diagnosis is the code
Push the door firmly closed and try again — a dishwasher will not run if the latch switch has not made, and the machine is telling the truth when it says the door is open. Then cut power at the breaker for a full minute, not just the panel button. Between them these two find a good share of these before anyone drives out.
The latch is a switch
Every dishwasher refuses to run with the door open, and it decides that from a switch rather than from the door. A latch that has worn leaves the switch unmade with the door apparently shut — so the appliance is behaving correctly on bad information, and the fix is a small part rather than a board. It is the single most common cause of a dishwasher that will not start on any make.
Where the code helps
These dishwashers report, and a machine that will not start with a code showing has already narrowed the problem for you. Record it before you clear it. It is the only appliance on this site that gives you that advantage, and it is worth taking.

Before you book
Questions about bertazzoni dishwasher will not start
The door seems closed but it will not go.
The latch and its switch, nine times out of ten. The machine believes the switch, not the door. It is an inexpensive stocked part and it is the first thing checked, well before anything electronic — which is why it is worth pushing the door firmly and trying once more before you book.
It hums for a moment and stops.
That usually means the machine is starting and then deciding it cannot continue — no water, or water it cannot detect. Check the supply valve under the sink first; it is free and it is turned off more often than anybody expects during unrelated plumbing work.
Can I reset it myself?
Yes, and it is worth trying: power off at the breaker for a full minute. Write down any code first, because clearing it destroys the evidence. A code that stays away afterwards is a very different situation from one that returns immediately.
