Bertazzoni Ice Maker Not Making Ice: Three Things Before You Book Anyone
Three free checks, in this order, and they end a real share of these calls. First, is it switched on at all? On these machines the ice maker button on the display is backlit when the ice maker is on and unlit when it is off, so a machine making no ice may simply have been switched off — by somebody loading the freezer, during a power event, or on purpose years ago. Second, is the mold locked in its horizontal position? The maker states that it has to be, and an ice maker whose mold has been knocked out of level by a bag of frozen food does not work and does not complain. Third, the water filter and its date: the fill is timed rather than measured, so a restricted filter produces small, hollow, slow cubes and eventually none at all, on a mechanism that is perfectly healthy. Only after those three is it worth looking at the machine itself, and on the refrigeration that carries a display there are two codes that name it — EO for the ice maker and EE for its sensor.

Check one: is it actually switched on?
The maker documents this and almost nobody reads it.
The ice maker control on the display is backlit when the ice maker is on, and unlit when it is off.
That is the whole test. And a machine that has quietly been switched off looks identical from the outside to one that has failed — no ice, no noise, no complaint.
Ice makers get switched off for perfectly good reasons and then forgotten: during a holiday, while a filter was being changed, by somebody rearranging the freezer, or during a power event. Years later somebody wants ice.
Check two: is the mold locked level?
Also documented, also missed.
The ice maker mold has to be locked in its horizontal position to work. It fills with a measured amount of water and freezes it in shaped cavities, then twists or ejects to harvest. Tilted, it fills unevenly or spills, and the harvest cannot complete.
A bag of frozen food pushed against it is enough. So is a box that shifted when somebody closed the drawer hard.
Look at it, level it, lock it.
Check three: the filter and its date
Six months. And a restricted filter shows up in the ice long before it shows up in the water.
The reason is that the fill is timed rather than measured. The machine opens a valve for a fixed period and freezes whatever arrived. Less flow means:
- small cubes
- hollow cubes
- slow production
- eventually none
on a mechanism that is in perfect health.
If you do not know when the filter was last changed, change it — and reset the counter afterwards, or the machine goes on believing the old one is fitted.
And while you are there: the supply
The shut-off valve, behind or under the machine or beneath the sink, fully open rather than assumed to be. Half-closed valves are surprisingly common and usually date from some unrelated plumbing job.
The line itself, not kinked. If the refrigerator has been moved for any reason and the ice stopped afterwards, this is the answer far more often than anything else on this page.
Then wait a day
An ice maker takes hours to fill a bin, and the first batch after any change is usually poor because the line is full of air.
Discard the first two batches. Judge the third.
Deciding after twenty minutes is how people conclude that a filter change did nothing.
When it is the machine
Only after all of the above.

What they do not do is replace the free checks. A healthy ice maker with no water behaves exactly like a failed one, which is why the water side is looked at first regardless of what the display says.
