Bertazzoni microwave not heating
The turntable turns, the light comes on, the timer counts down and the food is cold. Four microwaves in this line and three different machines behind that one symptom — and this is the one appliance on the site with no owner-side checks worth doing.

Five ordinary causes
What this usually turns out to be
Cheapest and commonest first, which is also the order we check them in. They sit hundreds of dollars apart, and only the unit settles which one is yours.
-
The magnetron or the high-voltage circuit
The cooking side. Everything else runs normally because the control, the turntable and the light are on a different circuit entirely.

A door interlock switch
Every microwave has switches that must agree the door is shut. One out of adjustment stops the heating while everything else carries on, and it is a small, inexpensive part.

On a drawer, the open-and-close mechanism
Rails, a motor and a set of switches. A whole class of complaint no other microwave has, and usually the more repairable half.

The control board
Real, and it usually shows itself as a machine that behaves oddly rather than one that simply does not heat.

On an over-the-range unit, only the ventilation
Two appliances in one housing. A fan that has stopped is a hood repair wearing a microwave's clothes, and the filters are the first thing to check.

Before you call anybody
None of it needs tools, and all of it makes the visit shorter.
-
01
Which half has stopped
Heating, mechanism, or ventilation. It decides everything about the visit.
-
02
Does the door close properly
A door that has dropped or a latch that is worn stops the heating and nothing else.
-
03
On an over-the-range unit, check the filters
They sit directly in the plume and load faster than any other filter in the kitchen.
-
04
Do not take the cover off
This one is not negotiable, and it is the only appliance on this site where we say so.

About Bertazzoni microwave not heating
The fastest diagnosis is what you can see
Do not open it. The high-voltage capacitor holds a charge that can injure you long after the appliance is unplugged, and there is no useful check with the cover off that offsets that. What is worth doing is establishing which half has stopped: heating, the drawer mechanism, or the ventilation on an over-the-range unit.
The one safety point we will not soften
The high-voltage capacitor in a microwave stores enough energy to injure you well after the appliance has been unplugged. Every other page on this site has sensible things an owner can check first. This one genuinely does not, and we would rather say that plainly than imply otherwise for the sake of consistency.
Three machines behind one symptom
Two over-the-range units that are also the hood, one 30-inch built-in, and one drawer. On the over-the-range machines half the appliance can fail while the other half is perfect. On the drawer, most complaints are the mechanism rather than the cooking. Telling us which one you have changes the visit before it starts.

Questions about bertazzoni microwave not heating
Is it worth fixing?
It depends on the machine and you will get a straight answer rather than a quote. A built-in or a drawer is a substantial appliance fitted into cabinetry and a magnetron is an ordinary repair on one. On a small over-the-range unit it is a fair question, and sometimes the honest answer is no.
What is different about a microwave drawer?
Everything mechanical. Instead of a hinged door there is a drawer on rails with a motor and interlock switches. So it has complaints no other microwave has — will not open, opens partway, opens and will not start — and those are the mechanism rather than the cooking side, which is usually the more repairable half.
Can I test it with a cup of water?
Yes, and it is a reasonable check: a cup of cold water on high for a minute should be noticeably warm. What it tells you is whether the heating side is working at all. What it cannot tell you is which component has failed, and that part is not an owner job.
