The ice plug, which is most of these
Water reaches the mold through a small tube. If it arrives slowly, the last of it freezes in the tube instead of reaching the mold. Next cycle, less gets through. Within a few weeks the tube is plugged and the maker has stopped. That is why clearing the plug without fixing the flow buys a fortnight rather than a repair.

Water flow. Either the supply is restricted, the filter is due, or the valve is not opening fully. It is a good complaint to have because it points at one small area and the parts involved are inexpensive.
The ice tastes wrong.
Usually the filter, and after that the ice itself — ice absorbs odor readily, and a bin that has sat for weeks in a freezer with strong-smelling food will taste of it no matter how healthy the machine is. Empty the bin, change the filter, give it two days.
It stopped after we were away for a fortnight.
That is a common pattern and usually harmless: with nobody drawing ice the bin fills, the arm or the sensor stops the maker, and then a fused block forms. Empty and break up the bin, and it normally restarts on its own.
