Bertazzoni dishwasher leak & door repair

Water on the floor, a door that no longer latches, or a heavy custom front that has started dropping instead of lowering. A leak reported early is a much smaller job than a leak reported after a floor has been under it — and on a panel-ready machine the door hardware is doing more work than most people realize.

How this visit actually goes

The same order every time, so nothing is opened and nothing is charged before you have seen the figure and said yes.

  1. 01

Find where the water is actually coming from

Front, base, or a hose connection at the back are three different repairs. A machine that leaks only on the fill and one that leaks throughout the cycle point in different directions, and running it under watch is how that is established.

  2. 02

Look at the door seal along its whole length

Gaskets harden, and they harden first at the bottom corners where they get the most work. A seal that looks fine flat can be failing under the compression of a closed door.

  3. 03

Check the door hardware, especially on a panel-ready machine

The springs and cables are tensioned for the weight of whatever front is hung on the door. A door that slams instead of lowering gently has lost that tension, and a slamming door damages the seal it is meant to compress.

  4. 04

Test the latch as a switch

The latch is also how the machine knows it is safe to run. A worn latch produces a dishwasher that will not start, and it is a much cheaper answer than the control board it usually gets blamed on.

Applies to

  • A built-in dishwasher faced with a pale oak cabinet front, standing open at forty-five degrees with both wire baskets pulled out and empty, in a cream Italian kitchen.
    Tall tub · Standard tub · Panel ready · 39 dB · 18" and 24"

Eight dishwashers, and the one part of this make that talks. Five are tall tub, three standard; one is panel ready and one is an 18-inch. Two run at 39 decibels, which is quiet enough that "it has stopped" and "it is running" can be hard to tell apart. Unlike almost everything else here, these publish a real error table — F1 through F9, plus FF and HI, each with a meaning the maker prints — and a code is worth writing down before you touch anything.

    • A code on the panel that returns after the power is cycled
    • Water standing in the bottom at the end of a cycle
    • A door that no longer latches, or latches and will not start

In more detail

About Bertazzoni dishwasher leak & door repair

Where these actually leak

  • The door seal, hardening first at the lower corners.
  • The base, at the shaft seal under the spray arm or at the pump.
  • Hose connections at the back, which are invisible from the kitchen and do the most damage.
  • Over-sudsing, from hand dish soap put in by mistake — which is not a leak at all and is fixed with a rinse.

The door is doing more than closing

It compresses the seal, it carries the panel, and it holds the switch that tells the machine it may run. One of these dishwashers is panel ready, and on that one the springs and cables are tensioned for a front that may weigh as much as the door. A door that has started to slam is a door that has lost that tension, and it is damaging the seal every time it closes.

Why we treat a leak as urgent

Not for the dishwasher's sake. Cabinet bases and wood floors are expensive, slow leaks are quiet, and by the time water is visible in the kitchen it has usually been under the machine for a while. Shut the supply off under the sink and call — that is the right order.

What the repair costs

Leak and door work starts at $165. A latch or a spring is at the lower end; a shaft seal or a pump is quoted once the source has been found under watch.

Questions about bertazzoni dishwasher leak & door repair

It will not start and the door seems closed.

The latch and its switch, nine times out of ten. The machine is telling the truth when it says the door is open — the switch is what it believes, not the door. It is an inexpensive, stocked part and it is the first thing checked, well before anything electronic.

My door has started to slam.

The spring or the cable that carries it. On a panel-ready machine this matters more than it sounds, because the custom front is heavy and a door dropping under its own weight both damages the seal and, eventually, the hinge mounts. It is a small repair now and a larger one later.

There is water under the machine but nothing visible inside.

Often a hose connection at the back or the base of the circulation pump rather than the door, and it is exactly the kind of leak that goes unnoticed until a floor is damaged. If you can see water and cannot see its source, stop using the machine and turn the supply off under the sink until it is looked at.

Is a leak urgent?

Yes, more than most appliance problems, and not because of the dishwasher. Cabinets and flooring cost far more than the repair, and a slow leak under a machine can do months of damage before it is seen. If there is water, shut the supply off and call rather than watching it.
