Bertazzoni freezer columns
Five freezers, and every one of them is a built-in column — 18, 24 and 30 inches, two of them with an ice maker inside. There is no chest freezer and no freestanding upright in this line at all. A column is a piece of the kitchen rather than an appliance standing in it, and that decides how the repair begins: the front comes off before anything is measured.

What goes wrong with it
Symptoms we are called out to on Bertazzoni freezer columns
Each one covers the likely causes in the order they are worth checking, and what to do in five minutes before booking anything.
-
Cold made, or cold not moved Refrigerator not cooling
The fresh food side warm while the freezer is cold, or both drifting together. Almost none of this is the compressor everybody fears — it is far more often a fan, a damper or a defrost cycle that is not completing.
- Fridge warm and freezer cold
- Both compartments drifting up together
- Running constantly and still not holding
-
Fill, freeze, release Not making ice
The ice maker has stopped, or makes cubes that are small and hollow, or fills and never releases. Three questions split every one of these calls, and any owner can answer all three by watching.
- Stopped completely with everything else fine
- Cubes small, hollow or misshapen
- Fills and will not release
-
Usually the door, and worth heeding Refrigerator beeping
A refrigerator that beeps is nearly always saying one of two things: a door has been open too long, or the temperature has gone outside the band it will accept. Both are worth acting on rather than silencing.
- Beeping with a door apparently closed
- An alarm after a power cut
- Beeping that started with no obvious change
-
Frost tells you where to look Freezer not freezing
Ice cream that has gone soft, frost building on the back wall, or a column that runs constantly and still will not hold. Every freezer in this line is a built-in column, which changes the access but not the diagnosis.
- Soft ice cream with the display reading correctly
- Frost on the back wall or round the fan
- Running constantly without holding
What we do on it
Repairs we carry out on Bertazzoni freezer columns
Starting figures for this equipment in South Florida. The exact cost is confirmed after an on-site diagnostic — and this is not the whole list of what can go wrong, so call if your problem is not here.
-
from $95 Diagnostic visit
We work out what is actually wrong before anybody quotes a part. On this make that usually means measuring rather than reading, because most of these appliances report nothing at all when they stop. The fee is credited toward the work when you go ahead.
- Measured rather than guessed — resistance, current, temperature, airflow
- The free causes checked first, before any part is named
- Credited toward the repair
-
from $185 Refrigerator cooling & defrost repair
The fresh food side warm while the freezer is cold, frost building where it should not, or a machine running constantly and still not holding. Almost none of this is the compressor, which is the part everyone fears — it is far more often a fan, a damper or a defrost circuit.
- Airflow separated from cooling before any sealed-system talk
- The defrost circuit tested as heater, thermostat and control
- Condenser and seals checked first, because both are free
-
from $650 Refrigerator sealed system repair
Compressor, condenser, evaporator and the refrigerant between them. The expensive end of refrigeration, and the one job on this site where we will tell you plainly when a machine is not worth it — because on a freestanding unit it sometimes is not, and on a built-in column it almost always is.
- Only quoted after airflow and defrost have been ruled out
- A straight answer about whether the machine is worth the work
- Recovered, repaired, evacuated and weighed in — not topped up
-
from $165 Ice maker repair
An ice maker that has stopped, fills and will not release, or makes ice that is hollow and small. Two of the five freezer columns here have one and so do most of the refrigerators, and the diagnosis splits cleanly in three: does it fill, does it freeze, does it release.
- Fill, freeze and release separated before any part is named
- Freezer temperature checked, because a warm freezer stops the cycle
- The fill tube checked for the ice plug that causes most of these
-
from $155 Column panel & door alignment
Fourteen of the machines in this line live behind your own cabinet fronts — five refrigerator columns, five freezer columns and four wine cellars. A custom door front is heavy, and when a column door drops a few millimeters it stops sealing along the top long before anything looks wrong.
- Doors set square against the cabinetry, not against the appliance alone
- Seals tested with the panel on, because that is how they live
- Hinges and closers adjusted as a set
-
from $195 Freezer column repair
Every freezer in this line is a built-in column — 18, 24 and 30 inches, five of them, two with an ice maker inside. There is no chest freezer and no freestanding upright here at all, which changes both the repair and the access: the front comes off before anything is measured.
- Defrost tested as a circuit, not guessed from the frost
- Door and panel alignment checked, because a column door carries weight
- Actual temperature measured over time, not read off the display
-
from $135 Appliance maintenance visit
A planned visit rather than an emergency one. On this make it earns its keep in three specific places: brass burners that want cleaning rather than replacing, hood filters and ducting nobody has looked at, and the scale that South Florida water puts into every dishwasher, steam oven and coffee machine in the house.
- Several appliances in one visit, which is where the saving is
- Burners, filters, condensers and scale — the four things that actually shorten a life
- A written note of what is starting to age, before it stops
-
from $175 Appliance installation & refit
Setting a machine back into cabinetry it was taken out of, hanging a custom panel on a column, or putting right an installation that was never quite right. On this make it matters more than most: a great deal of the line is built in, and induction in a sealed island is the commonest self-inflicted failure we see.
- Clearances and ventilation checked against what the appliance actually needs
- Custom panels hung square and aligned to the neighboring cabinetry
- Anti-tip, gas connections and leveling treated as the safety items they are

About Bertazzoni freezer columns
Five columns, no chest, no upright
The whole freezer line here is built-in columns in three widths — 18, 24 and 30 inches — with two of them carrying an ice maker. That is worth stating plainly because it sets expectations: there is no chest freezer to talk about, and a repair on a column is a cabinetry job as well as a refrigeration one.
What actually goes wrong
- Defrost that does not finish, which shows as frost on the back wall and eventually as a fan working against ice. Heater, thermostat or control.
- Seals and alignment. On a column the door carries a heavy custom front, and a door that has dropped a few millimeters no longer seals along the top.
- Condenser dust, which in this city is a maintenance item rather than an event.
- The ice maker, on the two that have one — fill, freeze, release, and the checks that separate them.
What to have ready when you call
The model number from inside the compartment, the width, whether there is an ice maker, and what the actual temperature is rather than what the display says it should be. A cheap thermometer left inside overnight is worth more than any description.

Questions about bertazzoni freezer columns
Why is there no chest freezer on this page?
Because this maker does not build one for this market. Every freezer in the current line is a built-in column, in three widths, designed to sit in a run of cabinetry — usually next to a matching refrigerator column. If you have a chest freezer or a freestanding upright with this badge on it, it is either a much older machine or another maker's, and it is worth telling us which when you book so that the right parts come with the van.
Frost is building up inside. Is that normal?
A little on the surfaces of food is normal. Frost building on the back wall, around the fan, or into a sheet at the base is not — it means the defrost cycle is not finishing. That is a heater, a thermostat or a control, and it is worth catching early because the ice eventually reaches the fan, and a fan working against ice is a noise complaint on top of a temperature one. The other cause is much simpler and free to check: a door that is not quite closing, or a seal that has stopped sealing.
It runs all the time. Should it?
A column freezer in a Miami kitchen works hard, and running a lot is not the same as running badly. What matters is whether it is holding temperature while it does so. A machine that runs constantly and holds zero degrees is fine; a machine that runs constantly and is at fifteen has something wrong, and the first suspects are dust on the condenser, a seal that has gone, or a defrost cycle that is not completing. All three are ordinary.
The ice maker in the column has stopped.
Two of these columns have one, and it is the same set of checks as any other: is the compartment cold enough to cycle at all, is the fill tube clear of an ice plug, and does the maker fill and fail to release or never fill. Those three answers separate a water problem from a temperature problem from a module, and you can get all three without tools.
Does the cabinet front have to come off?
For most repairs, yes. A column wears your kitchen's own door front and is trimmed into the run, so getting to the machinery means taking panels off and then putting them back aligned. It is predictable work and we would rather quote it honestly than discover it at your door. What makes it longer is anything built around the appliance afterwards — a countertop overhang, a filler strip, a run of trim.
