# Bertazzoni dishwasher wash & heat repair

### Hard water is the background condition

Every dishwasher in this city is working against mineral content, and it shows up in a specific order: film on glass, then spray arm ports that have narrowed, then a heater that takes longer than it used to, then a machine that is not really washing. A descale and a filter clean fix a genuine share of the calls that arrive as “the dishwasher is dying”.

### Wash and dry are different complaints

- **Dirty:** spray arms, scale, water temperature, then circulation.
- **Clean but wet:** the heater if it dries with heat, rinse aid if it dries by condensation, and loading in either case.

Telling us which one you have on the phone changes what comes on the van.

### The two free checks worth doing first

Spin both spray arms by hand — they should turn freely and their ports should be open. And lift the filter, because a filter that has not been out in a year is recirculating what it caught. Between them these two account for more wash complaints than any component does.

### What the repair costs

Wash and heat work starts at $155. Where the answer is a descale and a service rather than a part, that is the job and it is priced accordingly.

What this involves

Spray arms, scale and water temperature checked before any pump talk

Wash and dry treated as two different complaints

Descale where scale is the answer, rather than a part

Separate wash from dry

Dishes that come out dirty and dishes that come out clean but wet are two different repairs. It sounds obvious and it is the single most useful thing an owner can tell us on the phone.

Spin the arms by hand

They should turn freely and every port should be open. Scale narrows them from the inside, and an arm that cannot reach the back of the top rack produces exactly the pattern people describe as "it only washes the front".

Measure the water temperature

A dishwasher that is not getting hot does not wash and does not dry, and a heater that has partly failed looks like a wash problem. It is measured rather than assumed, because it explains both halves of the complaint at once.

Then circulation

Once arms, scale and heat are eliminated, the circulation pump is a real candidate and an ordinary part. Not before.

### It leaves a white film on everything.

That is the local water rather than the machine. South Florida water is hard, and hard water leaves mineral film on glass regardless of how healthy the dishwasher is. Rinse aid genuinely helps, a periodic descale helps more, and if the film is etched rather than deposited — cloudy and it does not come off — that is permanent and it is a warning to reduce detergent rather than a repair.

### Nothing dries any more.

Three candidates. The heater, if the machine dries with heat. Rinse aid, which is not optional on a machine that dries by condensation — without it water sheets and stays. Or loading, where plastics and upturned bowls hold water no matter what. Worth trying rinse aid before you call: it is a bottle, not a visit.

### Only the top rack comes out dirty.

The upper spray arm is not getting water or not turning. Common causes: a blocked feed at the back of the tub, an arm clogged with scale, or something in the rack physically stopping it turning — a tall utensil is the usual culprit. Spin it by hand before you call; if it does not turn freely you have found it.

### How quiet should it be?

Two of these machines are rated 39 decibels, which is quiet enough that people call thinking it has stopped when it has not. What is worth a call is a machine that has got louder: a rattle that comes and goes with the arm, a grinding at the start of the drain, or a hum after the water is gone. The first is often cutlery in the wrong place.
