# Resetting a Bertazzoni Refrigerator, and the Alarm That Is Not a Problem

## How to reset Bertazzoni refrigerator: first, which problem are you solving?

Most people searching for this want one of three things, and only one of them is a reset.

## One: the beeping. That is dr, and it is not a problem

A door left open for more than about **two minutes** puts **dr** on the display, blinks the door icon and sounds the buzzer **three times a minute for eight minutes**.

**Closing the door clears all of it.**

To silence it while you are still loading the machine, **hold the two temperature controls together for about three seconds**. The icon comes on and the buzzing stops.

And here is the useful part. **A machine that reports a door alarm with the door apparently closed is not describing a sensor problem.** It is describing a door that is not quite closing — a gasket that has taken a set, a panel-ready front that has dropped a few millimeters, a hinge that has tired under a heavy custom panel.

Do the paper test before assuming anything electronic: close the door on a sheet of paper and pull. It should drag. Test several points on all four sides; corners fail first.

## Two: the filter symbol. That is a calendar

Not a measurement. A **day counter**.

**180 days** on the built-in columns, where the symbol flashes and beeps. **330 days** on the French-door machines, where the icon lights, then **360**, where it starts flashing.

Change the cartridge, then clear the counter — a **five-second hold of the select control** on a column, a **three-second hold of the filter control** on a French-door machine. Check your own manual for the exact button.

If you clear it without changing the filter, you have moved a reminder. If you change the filter without clearing it, the machine goes on believing the old one is fitted.

## Three: the genuine reset

**Breaker off. Two full minutes. Back on.**

Two seconds is not enough — the control holds a small charge and can carry its state straight across a brief interruption, which is why quick power cycles so often achieve nothing.

Then **wait**. Several hours, ideally overnight, before deciding whether it worked. A refrigerator that has been off has to pull its entire cabinet back down to temperature, and on most machines the compressor deliberately **will not restart immediately** — there is a built-in delay to protect it from short cycling. A machine that sits silent for ten minutes after a reset is behaving correctly.

## What a reset cannot clear

The **E-codes** on this refrigeration are sensing problems, and they are reporting a real problem rather than a confused state:

- **E1** — refrigerator compartment sensor- **E2** — freezer compartment sensor- **E5** — frost sensor on the freezing side- **E6** — communication between boards- **E7** — ambient temperature sensor- **EH** — humidity sensor- **EO** — ice maker- **EE** — ice maker sensor

The maker's own note beside that table is worth repeating: **the appliance will usually go on cooling and freezing while showing one of these.** So it is not an emergency. It is a machine that has lost the ability to measure itself and will drift.

Power cycling does nothing to any of them.

## The unplug that is actually a test

Worth doing deliberately rather than hopefully.

Move the food. Switch the machine off for **twenty-four hours** with the doors open. Then run it again.

**Cools properly for a few days, then goes warm again** → a defrost problem. Frost had blocked the evaporator; you melted it manually; it will come back. That is a heater, a sensor or the control, at from $185.

**Behaves exactly the same** → not defrost. The sealed system or the cooling side, and a different conversation.

That is one of the few genuinely useful things an owner can do without tools, and it separates a moderate repair from an expensive one before anybody drives out.
